Pirates? Really?

I love Johnny Depp, and I thought the Pirates of the Carribean movies (although I haven't seen the 3rd yet) were good and all, but I really think enough is enough with this pirate craze. Seriously. There's this new reality show on CBS called the Pirate Master. Its from the same guy who made Survivor and various other reality crap-fests. The premise is basically to take 16 or however many losers were on the waiting list to be contestants on Survivor, and throw them on a boat in the middle of the Carribean and make them do Survivor like things while dressed like pirates. I know. How original. But really, is the reality TV well tapped so dry that we have to take to stealing the thunder of a legitimately successful movie franchise to fill one hour of TV every Thursday night during the summer? Apparently we must.

What really kills me is that in the previews, they tout that only one contestant will be crowned the Pirate Master. Is this a title that's really going to get you anywhere in life? seriously? Can you imagine you shoot this show, you win, and your applying for a job in a corporate office?? how comical would that be? I imagine it would go a little something like this...

"Well Bob, I've looked over your resume, and it looks pretty good, but I'd like to know what other skills you have that you think would be beneficial to this position?"

and then Bob answers...

"Well sir, I'm not sure if you noticed or anything, but I am THE Pirate Master. Much like the Highlander, there can only be one. So you know, that alone, should um, qualify me and stuff for the job."

Then the interviewer guy replies....

"Splendid. I think I've heard all I need to. Your hired"

Yeah no. Especially not with loser contestants like this douche bag named John. He's 25, and his occupation is listed as "Scientist/Exotic Dancer". I shit you not. Sadly though, cheese I've invested myself in and will probably continue to watch until the bitter end. Or until it gets cancelled due to low ratings. Whichever comes first. As a pirate would say....Tharr she blows! Garrrr.
